Kathryn (Kate) Lewer

Kate has spent some thirty years working in the child & family space after some time working in a psychiatric institution as a new graduate.

Kate's experience of working with psychiatric patients whose common and dominate story was their traumatic childhood experiences. These experiences fostered Kate's resolve & commitment to working with children & parents.

Since training in Theraplay in 2005 Kate has worked tirelessly promoting and hosting Theraplay trainings in Australia. Kate is passionate about supporting others to integrate Theraplay and embrace the road to certification to spread Theraplay in Australia.

Kate has extensive experience working in child and parent welfare/trauma and bushfire affected families.
Kate’s work is guided by deep principles of Social and Climate Justice and is committed to reconciliation with our First Nations People.

Kate works out of her Private Practice in Victoria.

Kate was deeply inspired after participating in the first Theraplay Trainings in Australia conducted by Phyllis Rubin & Jean Crume in 2005. Kate immediately introduced Theraplay activities and experienced the joyful magic. Kate sought supervision from Phyllis Rubin which was invaluable as she was the only practitioner integrating the principles and practice of Theraplay in Australia that she was aware of at that time-a lonely experience. To this end Kate is supporting several Theraplay Peer Support Groups in Australia.
After her Certification journey Kate was committed to offering Theraplay Trainings in Australia. Kate was supported by her CEO at Nexus Primary Health to proceed after the devastating Black Saturday Bushfires in 2009. Nexus was able to offer free Sunshine Circles trainings extensively for those working with groups of children.

Annie Kiermier, enthusiastically travelled to Australia for 5 consecutive years to train practitioners and train me to be a trainer.

Kate has worked tirelessly promoting and hosting Theraplay trainings in Australia. Kate is passionate about supporting others to integrate Theraplay and embrace the road to certification to spread Theraplay in Australia.

Now we have a valuable partnership with Ben Monaghan from Compass Seminars who brilliantly hosts all Theraplay trainings in Australia.

Kate is an active member of the Australian Theraplay Advisory Board.
